New gloves I am working on

    Hey guys,
Since I have a new Guy helmet on the way, I began to work on a new, mora accurate pair of glove.

This time instead of using curved plastic sheet, I used super sculpey polymer clay. Anyone used this method before?

It has been super easy to shape, curve and sand. Here's the result of about 4 hours of work:

    The primed:

And the first coats of krylon premium metallic 18k gold:

    Thanks for watching

    Thanks,
Seriously, the super sculpey clay is by far the easiest way to get it done, cut your parts, curve and bake them over a metal pipe for around 15 min., sand the curved corners and you're about done. Even if you don't get some parts right the first time, you have more than plenty clay left to redo.

ooh, Krylon gold paint! I heard the silver isn't too good. Is the gold on it chrome shiny?

Re: New gloves I am working on

It is glossy and shiny but far from being chrome reflective. I've buffed my paint job earlier and it looks better. I'll let it cure and do some test on painted scrap pieces to see it I can get some kind of glossy clear coat over it without ruining the gold. But I don't expect a mirror like finish.

That said, if I calculate the price of the clay, paint and gloves, it's hard to beat for 30 bucks.

I was thinking of using the Rustoleum Gold metallic finish, I remember secretly testing it on a shelf, and the shine gloss was incredibly nice.

Re: New gloves I am working on

Never tried the Rustoleum, I've searched props forums like the RPF for the best affordable gold finish and the Krylon Premium 18kt showed often. The best one being made Plasti Kote and available only in Europe (and used on many C3P0 built).

Gold metallic spray is usually semi-transparent and having a glossy black coat and an super smooth surface under it help a lot.
