    Burnin'/Mothership Reconnection/Voyager Phat Bass. How?!

    And last, but not least

How does one get that really "phat" bass sound? I wanna say that in Burnin' (assuming) and Voyager (they were given the Mothership parts as well) that Thomas played the bass live then filtered, phasered, etc. But assuming Thomas didn't re-play the bassline from the Burnin' sample, how can one achieve this really funky phat sound?

lets not forget ATW, it has the same sound, and i remember reading around here that it was made with a 303, nd since most of the songs mentioned here have an identical base, it must be using the same tool

I've seen some people call it the Alavi bass because it's featured very prominently in his song "Power" (which, yes, came out in 2004, after DP's songs, but oh well). A YouTube user, MaxCarra80, recreated the bass in Ableton and provides the project file/the recreated bass in the description of the video. It might get you closer to that bass sound with some tweaking.

A 303? The bass on Voyager, Burnin and Mothership reconnection aren't 303's. Those are real bass guitars.

Well the Mothership one is a real bass, and Burnin' does have a sample, but listening to it over and over, it seems like they redid it, or figured out an amazing way to magically extract the bass so well and make it phat. I've tried the 303 route, and playing with it for a couple of hours got me to almost-near bass quality that's in Around The World. But then again, it did say in the liner notes that Thomas played bass.

I tried recreating Burnin', Mothership, ATW and Voyager using only 303 (emulation) and a bit of EQ-ing on the Mothership part.

I think I came pretty close. Not counting the drums, haha. What do you think?

You, my man, are a godsend. Compress it a bit, low pass filter on top, and I think we have the final product. Also, were you using the ABL2?
