    Paint & Chrome

Firstly does anyone know of a good cosmi-chromer here in the uk? Secondly i'd like to hear everyones thoughts on Guy Manuels tron colourway. In some pics it looks silver, sometimes with a blueish hue. Also the back panel is a different colour and perhaps more of a matt finish, What does everyone think? the BTS pics from Tron are few and far between....

I see the helmet as just a silver, but that's just me. As for the back panel it does seem to be some other type of paint, still silver, but very dull. Maybe a matte touch to it.

Here's some still shots I took that prove that.

I want to say they were cold casted and buffed to a semi-gloss finish, and the back parts are definitely matte finish silver

Those TRON pics made me realize how freaking small those helmets are.

I wonder if the back panels aren't actually separate parts, maybe cnc milled foam. Those helmets are surely made off of a 3d model. 3d printing would easy with a disney sized budget.

Looks intriguing. From the complexity of the shapes of their examples, a DP helmet could also be possible in theory. It stretches, so presumably it would work. I'd just worry how long it lasts. It can't be very durable.

    Re: Paint & Chrome

Ive tried the chrome tape before. Note that the stuff I had was just for test purposes and was narrow, too narrow for the handplate. Also I needed to sand the hand plate some more as you can see all the imperfections through the tape.

I think the wrap will work fine for the handplates and has the advantage of being easy to repair, you just need to put in on cold as heat will deform the handplate. You can get a nice gold effect by just painting it with a clear yellow paint.

As for a full helmet, could be done... You would probably need to heat the wrap and vacume form it on some of the complex surfaces like the ears.

As for durability you can probably paint it with a clear lacquer.

    Re: Paint & Chrome

Neat!!! I would hate to have to apply it to 32 individual glove plates, though...
