Hi everyone, im a electrical engineering student who wants to share my building with the world, so here goes!

I bought one of these puppies from Volpin (http://www.volpinprops.com/daft-punk...-thomas-final/) a couple of weeks ago (not yet arrived), and I intend to send it away for chroming. I've been working on the electronics/koding since the order, and i hope to get it compleatly done within about 3-4 weeks.

It will be possible to change the scrolling text/patterns and side-led-light-thingy with bluetooth instead of buttons. I tried with my android phone today using a bluetooth terminal-app, and it works fine. Im sure something similar is avaible to iOS.

    So far i'm using:
2 arduino uno (one master for communication and side leds, and a slave for led display)
    bluetooth module
    6 shift registers
    8 power transistors
    ~400 leds
****load of resistors and some capasitors.

I will also post on my fresh instructables account (link later) and will probably sell the final product when it's done if anyone is interested.

I'll update with pics within a few hours!

As promised, here comes an update.

Template to make 5 pcs of 8x8 matrixes

Im using regular 5mm, 2,8V 25mA leds from ebay. Im using only the cathodes and anodes for matrix stability, which also makes the see-through visibality superb.

    Five of them!

    Breadboard was a mess

Re: Thomas bluetooth helmet build thread

I can communicate with the matrix with an Android phone (or iPhone or PC/mac) >bluetooth > master UNO > i2c > slave UNO. This, because i dont want to interrupt (like 0,3 seconds) the display if i would like to change the pattern of the ear panels. So the master Uno basically checks if the incoming bluetooth message is a command for ear panel or the display. If it's for the display it will redirect the message to the slave uno, which will display it. If the bluetooth message is a command for ear panel, it will udate the ear panels without sending anything to the slave uno.

    Also excuse my English.

Quick video of just the matrix, no bluetooth or side panels yet.

    Enough for today, stay tuned!
