I recently got my hands on one of volpin casts and thought about showing you some size comparison pics to my FireWire helmet.

Dang those FireWire helmets seem pretty small now, working on making a sculpt using Volpin plans. And now seeing this I don't think my head would fit in a FireWire helmet.

The FireWire helmet might be on the smaller side, I've read about some some people needing to trim it to get it to fit their head, but the Volpin helmet is definitely on the larger side. My Volpin Thomas fits me perfectly but when most of my friends have tried it on they kinda look like bobble heads.

Re: FireWire & Volpin Thomas size comparison

I cant get my head in right now because I have to trim it so I cant get any reference shots of me wearing it. But what I can say is that the Volpin helmet is heavier than the FireWire one.

The reason I bought volpins helmet is that Im going to sell my LED Display of my FireWire cast because the helmet for is too small for me with LEDs. Ill keep the FireWire one as a non LED helmet for some stuff. So Im gonna add the LEDs to the Volpin one.

The LED display will be for sale later this week.

The volpin one also fits perfect sizewise to my Sorenzo Guy helmet:

Re: FireWire & Volpin Thomas size comparison

Great to finally see the two compared.

I would say that a helmet midway between the 2 sizes would be the ideal and correct size.

I think it really just depends on you own build more than anything.

If in doubt i allways ask build size and if its a bigger guy ill direct them towards volpins cast.

Im actually almost finished my 2 year led build. I think you will like it once i post some pictures. All i can say for now is -

    CNC'd carbon fiber parts
    Turned aluminium supports
    Laser cut parts
    32x8 5mm red defused display
    programable Ear lights
    4 fans
    16 electroluminescent panels

and a ridiculous amount of cash

Re: FireWire & Volpin Thomas size comparison

I've always directed tall people to Volpin's, shorter fellows to FireWire. I put a Volpin V1 on my buddy Cam who is 6'3" and people actually thought he was TB. I've never seen a tall person wear one of Volpin's and I think it suits them. Pinski's is a little smaller than Volpins, but not notably so.

I agree with FireWire, something a little smaller than Volpin's would be the nail on the head. I still have yet to see a GM actually sized for someone's GM's size. That's why I am making a lifecast of myself and sculpting the helmet on top of it to be perfect (shooting for a replica of GM's lid, not a lid made to fit the person themselves, in strange coincidence I fit the bill; hence why I am doing it.) I am doing a true Discovery helmet, and take a cast from that to reshape and make the HAA. But I am no where near that yet!

Pedro is currently making one helluva amazing accurate to GM sized GM RAM lid. Keep your eyes open for that!

It be great to see a Thomas lid being done in that same fashion for someone 6'1" just like Tony did the originals. Can't wait to see what you come up with FireWire!

Re: FireWire & Volpin Thomas size comparison

As I found with my Guy-Man internal space is the issue when it comes to fitting LEDs and electronics inside. The reality is the HAA suits had no LEDs so needed no space for them and as such are a tighter fit. The Guy-Man RAM is such a tight fit that the lower rear piece is removable to get the helmet on. I would guess they have gone for more fitting helmets as they are also wearing more fitting clothes.
