Round 2: Discovery Light version helmets

It is time for the second time working on Daft Punk helmets.
So yesterday, the first helmet came in! A beautiful firewire V2.

It even came with both the Thomas and Guy-man RAM pendant. Hell yeah.

Comparing my Moguai helmet and my Firewire helmet

It sure as heck didn't fit like this but what did you even expect

But right now, after a nice few hours of work today, I got it to this

And I can put it on my head now
Next step is to cut the mouth piece up a bit (it's a bit very big now) and use epoxy to glue it in, and cut out the visor.
Still contemplating if I'm going to set the visor on the outside with an as small as possible lip or set it on the inside again.
I know it's not a good idea to use the first option when you insert LED's, but I'm also going to recreate the black...edge...stuff on the original helmet

So yeah, more updates to come, and also waiting for the Moguai Guy-man V2 to arrive

A small thing I thought about seeing that last pic:

Notice how you can see a little bit of the inner circle on both of Thomas' ears? That wouldn't be possible to see from the front unless they are slightly pointed forward, a bit like real human ears. Later helmets seem to have the ears pointing straight out to the sides, but I think this version actually is built like that.

I first noticed the angle of the ears in this picture (and forgot about it until now):

That's the same helmet packed away for storage.

Do what you want with this information.

That cast looks great btw, good luck with your project!

That's actually the only part of which I'm not sure if I'll build it in. I'm pretty anxious with cutting the ears in two.
Besides, there are actually quite a few pictures without the ear lights, so I'll just hang onto those haha.

I photoshopped that picture years ago for my helmet history chart. The original photo doesn't show the left side of Thomas' helmet, so I made a duplicate of the right side and flipped it.

Here is the original photo (cropped just to show thomas):

Looks like you can see inner ear reflections in Guy's helmet.

The mouth piece has been glued in, a few bubble holes have been filled and the visor has been roughly cut out. It's going quite a bit quicker than my last helmet

if you are having lights you need to be able to get to the inner of the visor to clean it, there will be at least some condensation that forms and results in water spots. You can either have a removable visor or a removable LED array.

i would have no idea how to make the visor removable without it being ****tely attached, but my idea was to basically copy volpin.
i can use the watercutter at school, so making the subvisor and holder will be no problem.

If I remember correctly his electronics are in a removable frame. Every time I look at the build log for his Thomas I can't work out how he fits it all it, his helmet doesn't appear very bulky.
