I think it is "who likes to get? Who likes to get? Who likes to get lucky?"

Seriously, listen to it with that in mind.

Sorry, but have (almost) all of you lost your mind??

    Its just saying:

We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get lucky (this is the only one that sounds odd, and I'll explain why)
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky
We're up all night to get lucky

The differences are not changes in lyrics, as they're saying the same basic thing the whole time (minus lucky initially), it is the synth being played specially (as in a little melodic flare in the upper register) for a tiny part while he says "get lucky"

Thats how vocoders work, you're shaping specific notes played on a synth with your voice, and if the sound coming through is choppy or syncopated, it can make the word your shaping pretty distorted.

Re: Get Lucky vocoded lyrics solved?

I finally solved the lyrics !

    There's the version that I found on lyricsmode.com :

(We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get
We're up all night to get)

(We're up all night to get (together)
We're up all night to get (let's get funked again)
We're up all night to get funky
We're up all night to get lucky)

    And there's my version :

(We rub a night to get
We rub a night to get
We rub a night to get
We rub a night to get)

We rub a night to get (together)
We rub a night to get (let's get funked again)
We rub a night to get funky
We rub a night to get lucky)

I know it makes no sense

Yeah, except the part going over the last two beats of the second measure doesn't match up syllable-wise with what you put (this is around 3:45 in the album edit). If anything it sounds like "makin' funk together" or "let's get back together" with the "er" part dropped off to sound like "too-geth".

This is why vocoders and talkboxes work so well with funk/disco/jazz/fusion; they can be intelligible and still work because it has such a different shape to it than a synth or guitar. For all we know it could be scat vocals instead of actual words (the lyric booklet would suggest this too).

If you listen to this part of a DIY acapella I found here (I have the .WAV (; ) you can hear that the end of 'lucky' is drawn out slightly. There's no reason to believe it isn't just drawn out further on that segment, or he's just added a "yeah" at the end.

Do you have a longer acapella?
