    Permanent Solution to Spambots

Remove this ad: become a supporter
    Hello everybody!!
As you have probably notice, there have been many spambots signing up for and posting spam threads to site in the past few days.
On one of the spam threads, I suggested that we put Captcha on the site, in the signup process. It was just an idea, but quite a few of you guys agreed. This motivate me to make an official post about it in the forum.
So... I understand that inserting Captcha to site might be a bit hard right, cause site creator is currently away and is most likely the site programmer... Which is why this is just an idea.
If you like my idea, you can learn more about Captcha at http://www.captcha.net/

Have a nice day!! Thank you for reading my post

Not sure if Spud has tried this in the past, but I can run the idea by him. Thank you for the suggestion!

    Re: Permanent Solution to Spambots

I recall a time where it was so bad, we admins made a thread exclusively to discuss the matter (there's a sub-forum exclusively accessible to mods and admins).

We went through the database of usernames and blocked those with obvious connotations to spam. I remember this one username that was basically a jab at me lol.

    Oh, internet. You so wow.

Spoke to Spud, and I have good news.
He likes the idea of a captcha system, and we're due up for a site upgrade as well.
It's on his to-do list, so we should hopefully see some solutions soon!

Thank you for the suggestion, notArpegius!

    Re: Permanent Solution to Spambots

Until captcha gets implemented, I suggest the old method of obliging new users to make at least 2 replies in an existing thread before they can make a new one is brought back.

Seriously, the spambot problem is getting worse.

    Re: Permanent Solution to Spambots

I'm noticing a weird redirect when I click the forum tab. Anyone else getting a new tab with a gibberish address when you click Forum on the main page?

Messaging Spud for a second time about this issue and the bot problem. It's becoming more than an annoyance.

    Re: Permanent Solution to Spambots

the issue is that Spud just isn't around and he needs to be.

i suggest that people try to email directly via admin@thedaftclub.com

if enough people do it, maybe there will be some kind of response, because i've not really been that successful trying to do so in the past.

in the interim i can look into doing the bandaid of requiring in-thread posts before new users are able to make threads.
