    Re: CD Vs Vinyl

The CD is ostensibly a dead platform, I reckon! Even if CD provided 24 bit truly lossless audio it could only be considered necessary while internet speeds reach a standard globally where people can afford to be streaming that quality of audio. Then again maybe the majority don't care about anything higher than CD, or anything higher than variable bitrate m4a's.

Vinyl has always been a romantic thing for me at least, also a materialistic thing. You need an incredible amp, turntable, needle etc. setup to achieve a better listening experience with vinyl compared to a basic CD player or Apple Music setup. Even then there's room for debate. Vinyl is fun though! I've been wondering how long the renewed interest in the medium will last.

I go with CDs, since they provide a more accurate representation of the audio compared to the vinyl format, they're cheaper (except in some cases e.g. St. Germain's first two EPs), and they're easier to playback.
I found this article to be full of good information about the disadvantages of the vinyl format and how modern vinyl masters use a modified version of the CD master.

Getting a 404 on that link unfortunately, I think it's the 'sh t' in the link being censored.

    Here's a modified link: http://bit.ly/2fiRflP

The argument "CD's are cheaper" doesn't work too well unless you are talking about popular music. Many CD's are extremely rare and much cheaper on vinyl.

Cool article though, and they are much easier to playback.

They are not huge as well.
